about covington logo
Covington is a vibrant, historic, urban city of just over 40,000 residents. Founded in 1815 at the confluence of the Licking and Ohio Rivers, we are located directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, Ohio. Covington enjoys a small town flavor with big city amenities. We are a city that embraces and celebrates the economic, cultural and racial diversity of our residents.

While Covington lost population during the nationwide trend of urban flight, since 1990 the population has leveled and the city has experienced a renaissance that includes the creation of new housing, businesses and entertainment areas. Covington has attracted many high-tech firms and our riverfront development is the envy of the region, boasting several businesses with worldwide headquarters in the city.

Covington enjoys 19 distinct neighborhoods, ranging in population from several hundred to 10,000 people. Many of the neighborhoods are located in our 12 historic districts that are predominately found in the northern portion of the city. Most of our neighborhoods have active resident associations or block watches that are dedicated to involving residents in strengthening their neighborhoods, improving safety, housing, and beautification. The many individual associations work together to address broader, citywide issues through the Covington Neighborhood Collaborative.

Covington has a history of strong partnerships between its citizens, business, government and community institutions that help make our city attractive to new residents and businesses. Residents and other key stakeholders have established a strong vision for the future of the city through community-wide planning processes and  through a demonstrated commitment to action on these plans. The center for great neighborhoods is dedicated to continue helping residents shape the future of Covington!
