We invest in residents who invest in their neighborhoods

It’s like the old saying – “You can give a man a fish and he will eat today. Teach a man to fish and he will never be hungry.” The Center for Great Neighborhoods of Covington is about teaching residents to fish. We equip residents with the tools they need to create the neighborhoods they desire.

When residents are involved in a community development effort from the beginning, developing and leading it themselves, community ownership and commitment naturally evolve. Other stakeholders – local government, businesses, organizations – are also encouraged to join the effort. Given the necessary resources and support, residents have the capacity and wisdom to find solutions to their community’s problems.

The Center for Great Neighborhoods achieves success not by dictating what a community needs, but by listening to what community members think is important. Residents know where their neighborhood can be improved and people are better contributors when they feel their ideas have been heard. The Center helps them organize, listen to each other and address their needs together.

"helping residents improve their lives as they improve their community"
